In Between Silence
International Artistic Residency

In Between Silence: A Residency for Artistic Exchange

This residency is dedicated to fostering deep artistic collaboration between composers and performers, ensuring that newly created works have a lasting life beyond their premieres. By providing space for slow, immersive rehearsal processes, it allows for the organic development of ideas, refining and strengthening the connection between music and those who bring it to life. The project aims not only to commission and present new works but also to support their continued existence through performances, recordings, and international dissemination.

The first edition of the residency, In Between Silence, was created in close collaboration with the British contemporary music ensemble GBSR Duo in 2024. The project brought together composers Julius Aglinskas (Lithuania) and Lawrence Dunn (UK), leading to the development of new works that premiered at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Muzikos Ruduo in Vilnius, and Iš Arti Festival in Kaunas. These compositions were also professionally recorded and will be released as part of an upcoming album.

Building on this success, the second residency is set for autumn 2025, expanding its reach to include composers from the three Baltic states. Continuing its commitment to fostering international collaboration and high-level contemporary music projects, the residency will once again create space for intensive artistic exchange and the long-term presence of new works in contemporary music programs.

In Between Silence gratefully acknowledges the following funders and institutions for their support of the 2024 residency: Lithuanian Council for Culture, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival “hcmf//“, Vaughan Williams Foundation, Francis Routh Trust, LATGA, Sapiegos Palace, LRT Klasika, Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre , Lithuanian Composers’ Union , Meno Genas
